Everyone loves to do their family photos in the fall, but I want to share my unpopular opinion with you today... I much prefer late winter / early spring here in South Carolina for outdoor family sessions.

This gorgeous family of seven? Their session could not have gone better. Aside from being awesome people and super fun to work with, there is another reason it went so well: the time of year. Here's why:

1. Less crowds. We live in a haven for tourists, but in the late winter / early spring, they are sparse. Add to that - most everyone else is doing their family sessions in the fall. This means wide, open spaces. No one enjoys fighting for a spot in a pretty location that's overcrowded with tourists.

2. The weather. Typically we have some gorgeous days in late winter / early spring which are often a perfect 70 degrees. In the fall the weather is still hot and muggy. Not only do cooler temps just feel better, they help cut frizzy hair and keep makeup from melting off faces.

3. No bugs. Let's face it, some of the most beautiful locations in Myrtle Beach, Conway, Pawleys Island and Georgetown are also the most buggy as soon as spring rolls around. Booking your session for late winter / early spring will ensure that no one is slapping mosquitos off their backs in the middle of their family portrait session.

Thank you Burlingame family! I had so much fun capturing you all!
