How do you have the best newborn session ever?  The first step is to do your research and hire the best!  The best will not be the cheapest or the fastest. If those are the most important factors for you, just know that you will be sacrificing quality.... Once you have done your research (don't ask facebook - trust me on this), hired your photographer and scheduled your session, here are some tips to help ensure you have the best newborn session in Myrtle Beach.

1. Go in with an open mind and positive attitude!

I know that having a newborn can be a stressful time. You're sleep deprived and trying your best to get a million things done. But don't treat your session as one more chore to check off your list. Try and look at this as a bonding experience and be open and willing to the process. If you are stressed and have a negative attitude, it will affect everyone participating in the session and will likely reflect in your photos.

2. Clear the clutter in your home!

When I arrive at your home for your session I will look at any and all areas with good lighting. It's all fair game, whether it be your kitchen, a stairwell or hallway. You should especially expect photos to happen in your living room, nursery or master bedroom. I'm not saying your home should be spotless, but just do a quick sweep and put things away. Stash things under the bed, a closet, wherever they can go out of sight. IF you did your homework and booked your session while pregnant, taking care of all the clutter you can before baby arrives is a great thing to do, not only for your session but just for your own peace of mind for when you come home.

3.  Don't worry about directing your toddler or other older siblings to sit and smile.

Leave all of that to me!  We are looking for loving, candid moments. Yes, I'll get one of everyone looking and smiling at the camera, but the majority of what I will capture will be moments of play and love. This doesn't happen when parents are trying to force toddlers or kids to sit and smile.

4.  Make it easy and take advantage of my client closet!

I have a plethora of beautiful, postpartum friendly dresses, toddler and kid clothing up to size 10 and mens linen shirts. Just let me know your sizes and your clothing is taken care of (with the exception of pants for dad). I will bring options for you to try so you can choose what works best. Almost all of the mothers in my newborn portfolio are wearing dresses from my client closet, and also the mother in the photos below.

This is just a sampling of how to prep for the best newborn session. Much more info is sent when your session is booked. If you are in the Myrtle Beach, Conway, Murrells Inlet or Pawleys Island area (or anywhere in the world) and are nterested in working with me, fill out the contact form and let's get in touch!

And with that, take a look at this recent in-home Myrtle Beach newborn session. This family was a dream to work with! You can tell how easy and care-free they were during their session, it comes through in their images beautifully if I do say so myself!
